Joseph Head was born about 1774 in Washington County, Virginia. His father was Anthony Head.

He married Mary Young on February 5, 1788 in Washington County, Virginia. The ceremony was performed by John Frost.

Joseph appeared on the Washington County tax list from 1787 to 1789.

Joseph and Mary left Washington County for Lee County before 1790. From 1795 to 1804, Joseph was on the Lee County tax list.

In 1811 Joseph Head and Christian Plank sold Lawrence Feathers some property in Lee County, Virginia.

In 1814 Joseph and Lawrence Feathers sold land to William Yates in Lee County.

In 1815 when the Lee County tax assessment was made, Joseph Head had 1,117 acres in Turkey Cove, but he was living outside of Lee County.

He eventually moved to Scott County, Virginia after 1820.

Joseph Head (son of Anthony) probably born about 1765 and his wife Mary Young after their marriage settled in what became Lee County, 1792-3, where he became actively engaged in buying and selling land. He was associated with Hiram Craig in some of his land dealings. The deeds are all of record in the Lee County Deed Books.
